Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz is optimistic about playing for Paraguay in Saturday's World Cup qualifying clash against Argentina. The Rovers forward was substituted after 28 minutes of the 4-1 defeat at West Ham because of an Achilles problem and has been assessed by Paraguay's medical team following his arrival in Asuncion.

"I feel good," said Santa Cruz. "This injury is less significant than another one I had in the past.

"I want to play on Saturday. If not, I will let another player take my place. We have other good forwards."

Paraguay team doctor Manuel Aguilar added: "If we can use him in the second half it would be a boost."

America striker Salvador Cabanas and Olimpia defender Denis Caniza are also doubtful and will be monitored throughout the week.
