The Premier League's youngest-ever referee will take charge of his first top flight match this weekend as Stuart Attwell officiates the game between Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.
The 25-year-old has been fast-tracked to the Premier League and is four years younger than Mark Clattenburg was when he set the previous record at the age of 29 in 2004.
Former referee and current assessor Alan Wilkie claims that Attwell is ready for the challenge: "We've never had this situation before, but I have assessed this young man and he has all the skills and qualities, including maturity," he said.
"The players respect his mobility and his ability, and that's why he has come through the ranks so quickly. He deserves it. Of course he will find the Premier League a challenge, but that is what refereeing is all about. At any level you choose it is always a challenge."
